James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, known as the Winter Soldier, is a prominent figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Initially introduced as Captain America's loyal and childhood friend in Captain America: The First Avenger, his story takes a dramatic turn.
During a mission in World War II, Bucky is presumed dead after falling from a train. However, he is recovered by HYDRA, brainwashed, and subjected to experiments. These procedures augment his physical capabilities and erase his memory, turning him into a highly skilled assassin known as the Winter Soldier.

After struggling with his past actions and the programming inflicted upon him, Bucky seeks redemption and eventually becomes an ally to the Avengers. He grapples with his identity and seeks to atone for his actions as the Winter Soldier, ultimately striving for peace and control over his own life.
